This game is FUN!!!

I had never even heard of this game until I was given a chance to review it. I come from a long line of card players from uno, shanghi, spades, hearts… etc to black jack and other poker games, so I figured why not try it out.

When we first got the Scrimish cards out to see how the game play went, the first thing we noticed was there are two decks of different colors.

Ours had one deck of blue cards and one deck of red cards. These cards had numbers ranging from 1-6 plus an A : Archer Card, S: Shield Card and one card in each deck that had an image of a crown on it.

Game Setup

Each player gets one full deck. They must take their deck and create 5 piles of 5 cards each. They can create these piles however they want with only one requirement. The crown card in each colored deck, MUST BE on the bottom of one of the 5 piles of 5 cards.

Setting up your deck: There is no right or wrong way to set up your 5 piles, as long as the crown is on the bottom.

This is where the strategy comes in, and the reason I like this game so much.

I love trying to figure out how I think my husband, son and aunt (all of whom I played….) would lay out their cards, into their piles and set mine up in a way that would counter act their plan.

This part I think you learn over time and experience playing the game, however at the same time, it really can just be pure chance.

Playing Scrimish

The object of the game is to find the other players crown card.

Once both players have their 5 piles ready, with the crown on the bottom of one of them and laid out FACE down in front of them. The person who had their cards set up and ready first, goes first.

We sort of just took turns. Some people tend to take a long time thinking this process out and others just sort of let chance take over. Plus we were just learning!

The first person chooses the top card from ANY of their piles as their challenge card and places it face up in front of one of their opponents piles.

This part of the game is like War and is called challenging. The opponent then flips over the top card on the pile that was challenged by player 1 to reveal its value..

-If both cards are a number, the highest number wins (like in war) and the lower number is discarded for the remainder of the game.

The winning card goes back to the pile it came from face down. This is where the game is sort of like memory and can help with your moves in future play.

-If both cards are the same number, they are both discarded and player 2 takes their turn.

There are other rules pertaining to the shield card and archer card that also effect the game play and play a part in the strategy of not only how you play and challenge, but also in how you originally set up your cards.

To Win

Play continues like this until one of the players finds the crown card and defeats their opponent. The rules are laid out clearly including game variations and advanced play alternatives.

I’m really glad we got this game and I see this being a family favorite. Even my 16yr old son likes this game. That’s a plus right there. Would highly recommend to anyone who love games of strategy but don’t like playing for hours at a time.

Fun, addictive strategy game with almost immediate satisfaction!
(when you win.. lol)
