The JAM Rhythm WiFi home audio speaker is a smaller whole room speaker with a powerful punch! I am impressed with all it has to offer and the ease of set up! They have included very detailed instructions from initial set up to multi speaker connections.
JAM Rhythm Setup
Setting up your JAM Rhythm WiFi home audio speaker starts by finding a safe place to plug it in. Then using the device of choice, such as a phone, tablet or PC, you will need to download the “Jam WiFi” app from the Google Play Store or iTunes.
Once the app has fully downloaded and installed, you will need to open the app. You will see a box that says NEW SPEAKER SETUP. Click that box and a new set of options pop up.
Choose the JAM Audio speaker you are setting up, in this case I was setting up the JAM Rhythm. Once I selected Jam Rhythm, the next screen gave instructions to plug your Rhythm speaker into the wall outlet via the included power adapter cord.
When you first plug in the Rhythm WiFi speaker, there is a flashing red indicator light to let you know there is power. You need to wait until the red indicator light stops flashing and turns solid red.
Once your WiFi home audio speaker is ready (solid red light) you will need to press the button on the back of the speaker that has the WiFi symbol. Located above the power cord port. It will speak and say searching for WiFi connection. Then click next.
When you click next, it will ask for your WiFi password. Plug in the password and click “Confirm” If the connection fails, the speaker will say “Failed to connect to WiFi router” Simply press the back button that says try again. If you are still having issues you can visit JAM Audio help section for more troubleshooting tips and tricks.
Once you have properly input your password and the connection has synced, the speaker will say “waiting for WiFi connection” after a few more seconds it said “WiFi Connected”
Landscape or Portrait
A new screen popped up on my phone asking “How will you place the speaker?” There are two images to choose from. The first is with the speaker in landscape mode and the other in portrait mode. I chose landscape mode as that is how I had my speaker sitting at the time of set up. The speaker said “Stereo Sound”
When you have the Rhythm speaker setup to play in landscape mode it will play in stereo sound, when you set it up to play in portrait mode it will play with mono sound. The JAM Rhythm WiFi audio speaker has bumpers on the bottom and side of the unit so when you place your speaker in either direction, it is not getting scratched up and won’t slide around. This is a great added feature, but the best part for me is the adjustable label.
If you have OCD tendencies like I do, it would drive me nuts to set the JAM Rhythm in portrait mode because I would constantly see the label sideways and feel like my speaker is tipped or something. They have made the label twist-able so that it is in the proper position regardless which setup you choose! LOVE IT!!
At this point, I had a box pop up telling me there was a firmware update available. I allowed the update and waited as the screen said not to unplug the speaker. Once the update was completed, my speaker said “Speaker Update Complete”
Using Your JAM Rhythm WiFi Speaker
Once your WiFi speaker is successfully connected and fully updated you are ready to start playing music. The next screen you see will be your home screen. Not sure if that’s what it’s called, but that is what I am calling it.
At the bottom of this screen, you will see a bullseye type symbol (home screen), a music note symbol, an arrow/play symbol (now playing screen) and a symbol that has a circle with a bunch of vertical lines in the center. This symbol is for the intercom screen.
The Symbol with the music note is the section where you will choose your music. When you select this symbol it will take you to a new screen. The JAM Rhythm WiFi speaker is preloaded with Spotify, Tune In, iHeartRadio, Tidal and My Music Library.
I chose my music library and realized real quick, you can only use one of the preloaded music sources or you need to have your own tunes downloaded to your device already. I don’t have my music on my phone because I use a cloud service not provided by the app. So I synced one of my favorite playlists to my phone and went from there.
Once I had the music I wanted downloaded on my phone, I went back to the JAM WiFi app and selected My Music Library again and sure enough all my songs showed up. I clicked on and instantly it started playing through the Rhythm WiFi home audio speaker. PERFECTION!
Now I could stop there, BUT… there is one more feature I really need to tell you about. It might be my favorite thing about this JAM home audio WiFi speaker!
Controls & Options
You will find the other function buttons on the top of the speaker if in landscape mode (or side if in portrait mode) The first button is the Play/Pause button. Pauses and plays music that has already started. The next two function buttons are the – & + symbols. These will turn the volume up or down with quick short presses. With longer presses they will go back to last song or forward to the next song. The last function button is a star symbol. The star is the preset selector.
Presets: When you are in play mode on the JAM WiFi app, you will see the information for the song that is currently playing. On the right side of the song/album title you will the same STAR symbol. Press the symbol and a new screen pops up.
There are four presets to choose from. If this is the first time setting up your presets all of them will say “Content is empty” and they are numbered 1-4. Select on of the empty presets. A small pop up with ask you to enter a name for this playlist (preset) then click confirm. The speaker will say “Preset Saved”
Each time you click the STAR symbol by a song, it will pop up with the option to choose 1-4 and will add that song to that list. Once you have your playlists/presets all set up, you can now activate them without having to open the Jam WiFi app.
Intercom: This speaker can also work as an intercom. REALLY!! That little circle button with the vertical lines is for the intercom screen. If you press that button it takes you to a new screen with a little microphone image.
Simply press and hold (for up to 30 seconds) the microphone image, while speaking your message, and it will record up to a 30 second message. Within a very few short seconds after you release the hold, your message will project through the speaker.
You can do this at anytime. If you are in the middle of a song, but need to make an announcement, simply follow the steps to create your message and the speaker will automatically tune down the song in play to a very low audible sound, while amplifying your recorded message over the song. Then immediately switch back to the song and playing level you had it at. (So many ideas and uses where this would come in handy!)
Now at this point you would think there wasn’t much more this JAM Rhythm speaker could do.. You’d be wrong.
Not only s there more to the things I have highlighted in this post, but the Rhythm speaker can also be synced with other JAM Audio WiFi speakers! You can group multiple speakers to play the same thing from one app.
I am super impressed with the JAM Rhythm WiFi home audio speaker and look forward to using on a more daily basis. I can not get over the intercom mode and how easily it works. I know it sounds silly, but that just makes me smile.
